8 Antique Christmas Ads

November 3rd, 2008

My wife is an assistant manager of a store in our local mall and according to her people are already coming out in droves to start holiday shopping early.  Which this got me thinking of antique or old Christmas ads that used to run in newspapers and magazines.  I wonder how early those ads ran, early as October, November, my guess is that they started at least after Thanksgiving.

Below are a list of 8 old Christmas Ads and a friendly reminder to start your Christmas shopping early. ;)

Homemade Antique Christmas Gifts

October 30th, 2008

Every year my mother-in-law creates a personable and unique Christmas gift for all the immediate family.  She takesthe time and effort to create a very memorable gift, that could not be bought in stores.  Generally these small gifts are of the arts and crafts variety, which give them an antique Christmas flare.  But just because they are an antique gift, doesn't mean that they are just decorations.

Last year she created a small bean bag that could be put in the microwave, after heated up could be placed on your back or sore muscles as a massage item.  It's been extremely useful and makes for a wonderful evening, it's an antique Christmas gift that is being used year round.

Another year she created a snowman out of antique jars, painted and then personalized each one for the family.  This made a great decoration that we bring out in our house every year.  Every year is different and I'm anxious to see what she comes up with, because making home made antique Christmas gifts is a great tradition to start and leaves an lasting impression.

Antique Christmas Cards

October 29th, 2008

Simple, elegant, and quality all describe what an Antique Christmas Card is.  They make a memorable card for families or even better yet businesses.  The company I work for picks out a beautiful antique Christmas card every year and it's always a favorite amongst the employees and customers we send them to.  Often times it's the first Christmas card to be displayed and the last to be taken down after the new year.

It's easy to find Christmas cards at local retailers like Wal-mart, but it takes a little more searching to find quality antique styled cards.  Finding unique and authentic antique Christmas cards is the real challenge, especially ones that have yet to be used.

Like other antique Christmas items, authentic cards can best be found at garage sales, flea markets, and online auction houses like eBay.  I've found a number of still wrapped boxes of antique Christmas cards at surprisingly low cost on eBay, that I will be sending out to my friends and family this year.  I guess it's never to early to hunt down and pick out that perfect Christmas card.

It can be difficult to find quality antique Christmas decorations if you are not familiar with where to look.  That's why Antique-Christmas.com is here to make sure you have all the best antique Christmas gifts right at your finger tips.  Buying antique Christmas decorations online has a lot of benefits, but don't underestimate your ability to find great finds other places as well.

Often times flea markets and other swap meets will have a lot of old Christmas decorations, but expect to pay a premium.  A better place to look, where the prices are more reasonable, would be at garage or local yard sales.  Lastly, check out what you have hiding out in your own families storage and old Christmas decoration boxes.  You may find some nice gems that were forgot about, but would look perfect when decorating this year for Christmas.
